Mistakes I Made When I First Started Blogging

Mistakes I Made When I First Started Blogging

When I first dipped my toes into the blogging world, we're talking about a good five years back, and let me tell you, it was all kind of a happy accident. You see, a classmate of mine dragged me into this whole blogging thing, and I thought, "Why not, right? Having a blog, that's not something you stumble upon every day!" So, I jumped in headfirst.

But I have to confess, I didn't exactly have a clear roadmap for my blogging journey. My blog became this wild canvas where I painted my frustrations, threw in some hatred for good measure, and sprinkled it all with a generous dose of my cringe love life for the whole wide world to see.

Jump ahead a few years, when I not only grew up but also levelled up my mindset. I had this itch to wipe away all those negative vibes and give them the boot. So, guess what I did? I hit the delete button on my old blog, swearing off blogging forever...or so I thought! But, hold up! I couldn't resist the siren call of sharing, writing, and connecting with incredible online friends.

So, about a year ago, I threw caution to the wind and dove right back into this fantastic world. And let me tell you, that's when the real learning journey kicked off. This is the place where I've truly been through the wringer, where I've stumbled, tripped, and faceplanted into the occasional blunder, you name it. Today, I'm here to spill the tea on those mishaps and slip-ups with all of you.

Too focused on quantity over quality

In the good old days, I used to believe it was all about keeping that content train chugging, even if it meant throwing up 10 quick, info-less posts. But you know what? Now I'm all about that quality-over-quantity vibe. Why rush when you can drop one killer post a week, making sure it's the kind that leaves a mark for ages?

Never consider the readers

Back in the day, my blog was basically my personal diary on the internet. It spilt all my life happenings, my foodie adventures, my wanderlust tales, and my random obsessions. And hey, let's be honest, there's no shame in that.

But truth be told, I wasn't exactly a reader's best friend. I didn't bother with questions, and comments were like ghosts to me – I'd just let them haunt the blog without a word. It was all about me, and I wasn't exactly the poster child for friendliness either.

A good blogger is the kind who genuinely cares about the people reading their stuff. It's about giving back, providing insights, and dishing out feedback that's tailor-made for them. It's like hosting a cozy chat with a warm cup of virtual coffee or tea!

Wasn’t building relationships or engaging with the visitors

Speaking of that, I totally dropped the ball on connecting with my readers. Building a real connection is like the key to keep people coming back for more on your blog, y'know? Can you believe I went so far as to disable the comment section? Seriously, what on earth was I smoking back then?

Poor grammar/ choice of words

Alright, I'll lay it out straight – my grammar used to be a hot mess, no sugarcoating it. I mean, I was practically the king of cringe-worthy posts, riddled with grammatical errors. I didn't bother tidying up those goofy little errors, and honestly, I couldn't care less about the overall vibe of my content. But hey, I'm on the up-and-up now!

What blogging mistakes did you make when you first started?

  11. My mistakes in blogging was sharing everything that had happen in my everyday life. Like, what was I thinking when sharing about the person I like or hate in my blog? It was so childish I cannot bear to read my old blog posts and eventually deleted all of it. My old blog posts almost reached 500+ entries of nonsense from 2011. /sigh/ /face palm/ I actually still have that side of childish entries in my blog, but I tried to reduce it now because no one wanted to read a non-beneficial entry, right? haha
