Self-Care Wins: My WFH Happiness Hacks

Self-Care Wins: My WFH Happiness Hacks

I'm not the kind of person who springs out of bed at 4 am for a jog, proudly flaunts a 12-step skincare routine, or those oh-so-chill meditation sessions to find Zen. We're not all Instagram-ready wellness gurus, and that's totally okay!

Self-care isn't a one-size-fits-all, and that's something we all need to embrace. But here's the deal: knowing how to replenish your own energy and give yourself a well-deserved break is like finding the secret sauce to keep you feeling your best while navigating the wild world of working from home.

So, if you're like me and prefer a more effortless approach to self-care, you're in the right place! I'm happy to share with you my hassle-free-approved ways of keeping the work-from-home hustle balanced with a little TLC.

Sunshine and fresh air breaks

Nature means the world to me; it's an absolute game-changer for my work-from-home routine. I swear by it! Whenever I can, I fling those windows wide open and bask in some much-needed Vitamin D. Even a little jaunt around my yard or balcony does wonders for my mood. I tell ya, fresh air is like a quick mental vacation, a little breather for my brain!

Hydrate like a boss

Staying hydrated is the name of the game. Besides my trusty cup of tea, I keep a cute water bottle on my desk (bonus points for one with motivational quotes) to remind me to sip all day. You'll be amazed at how much better you'll feel with those eight glasses a day!

Feel-good tracks

Music has the power to transport you to a happier place. It's like your own personal daily dance party, and nobody's watching! This is your sign to make a killer WFH playlist filled with all your favorite bops.

If you're wondering, here are a few of my all-time mood-boosting jams: "Shut Up and Dance" by WALK THE MOON, "Welcome to New York" by Taylor Swift, "Boy With Luv" by BTS, and, of course, the timeless "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" by the one and only Whitney Houston.

Fresh and aromatic vibes

I'm all for smelling amazing, you know. So, a diffuser or a scented candle is definitely my jam! Lavender, peppermint, or citrus scents are my all-time faves and they can transform your workspace into a total zen oasis. Plus, it'll keep those stress monsters at bay!

Stretch it out

Working all day can get a bit monotonous. And all that sitting? Yeah, I feel you. That's why I make sure to throw in some regular stretching breaks into my day. I mean, who wouldn't want to roll those shoulders, reach for the sky, and even give those toes a high-five, right? It's like an instant refresh button for your body. Plus, while I'm busting out these moves, you bet I'm jamming to those feel-good tunes!

Fuelin' up with healthy bites

Snacking can easily get out of control when you're working from home. So, I try to make it a habit to prep some cut-up fruits like strawberries (bonus points if it comes with dark chocolate dip!) and mangoes to munch on instead of chips or cookies. Healthy snacks are essential for keeping your energy up!

Mindfulness minute

When I'm feeling overwhelmed, I take a minute to close my eyes, stop whatever it is that I'm doing, and focus on my breathing. Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4, and exhale for 4. It calms the storm in my mind.

Keep it clean at work

You know, people often toss around that old saying about how a neat workspace equals a neat mind. Guilty as charged, I've been known to preach that too, but I've come to realize it's not always the case. A spick-and-span workspace doesn't guarantee a clutter-free mind.

But here's the deal, I'm all in for a clean, organized workspace. I make it a point to keep it squeaky clean as I work. And once I'm done, I'll put everything back in its place, making sure it's all ship-shape and sparkling.

Digital detox

After work hours, I disconnect from my devices for a while. I bid adieu to emails and work chats faster than you can say "unplug."  My phone's "Focus" mode transforms into the "Do Not Disturb" mode in a snap. Gotta treat that brain of mine to a well-deserved breather, away from the screen's glow and the online whirlwind.

Self-care doesn't come with a one-size-fits-all manual. You do you, and you don't compare your unique journey to anyone else's. Your quiet, special recharging place might not look like what you see others doing, and that's more than okay. But if you're on the hunt for ways to treat yourself better and inject some energy back into your life, the self-care tips I've shared might be just the inspiration you're looking for. Thanks for hanging out with me, and until next time! <3

    1. I used to be all about the hustle and bustle, working with others because it was a blast! Then, I waved goodbye to the 9-5 life, started taking my writing gig seriously, and it changed the game. Now, I find I'm super productive when flying solo or working from home. Life's full of surprises, huh? :D
