How to Turn Procrastination into Productivity

How to Turn Procrastination into Productivity

I used to think procrastination was synonymous with laziness (and I still kinda do, to some degree). But now that I'm working as a freelance writer and running a business, I've discovered that procrastination doesn't always have to be a bad thing.

In fact, I think it can be beneficial if done right – like procrastination with a purpose. I often take micro breaks during the day, especially for my eyes, and guess what? I'm still getting things done. Here's how to turn procrastination into productivity – so you don't feel so bad about yourself!

Declutter your desk or freshen up your space

Nothing beats a tidy workspace! When I'm feeling stuck, I often take a few minutes (or sometimes a whole hour, there's no in between) to declutter my desk. It's amazing how organizing your space can clear your mind. Plus, you might find that long-lost pen you've been looking for.

Plan your tasks and tackle what needs to get done first

Sometimes, all it takes is a few minutes to jot down your tasks. Seriously, writing things out helps me see everything clearly. It's like my brain suddenly goes from a cluttered attic to a tidy little living room! Prioritizing tasks can make your day feel less overwhelming. Plus, you'll get a kick out of crossing things off your list. Who doesn't love that sense of accomplishment?

Clear out your inbox and organize messages into folders

Ah, my favorite procrastination method: cleaning out my inbox and spam folders! There's something so satisfying about tidying up those spam folders. While I'm at it, I love to unsubscribe from those newsletters I never read. Goodbye, clutter!

Listen to a podcast

I'm a podcast junkie! I can't tell you how many podcasts I've binge-listened to just this year alone. True crime podcasts are definitely my guilty pleasure, but when I need something fresh and insightful, I turn to business podcasts. They keep my brain engaged while I do absolutely nothing or when I tackle mundane tasks.

Brainstorm new ideas for content or solutions

A little brainstorming session can turn those minutes into hours of creativity. I often find myself sitting in my cozy corner (or sometimes in bed) with my sister, bouncing ideas around for our business. It feels like we're not doing much, but those sessions are pure gold!

Move your body!

When my brain feels cluttered, I step away from my screen and go outside for some fresh air. It's like hitting a reset button for my mind! A quick walk or some light stretching can do wonders for creativity. Plus, who doesn't love a little sunshine?

Spill all your thoughts, challenges, and wins

I'm a big fan of writing things down (obvi). Writing down everything that's weighing me down helps me feel lighter. It might seem simple, but it's incredibly helpful. And sometimes, I can't wait until the end of the day to jot down what I'm grateful for – I do it whenever I feel inspired. It's a little pick-me-up that keeps me going!
